Spiniferites ramosus ssp. meandriformis
Spiniferites ramosus ssp. meandriformis (Corradini 1973) Lentin and Williams 1975
Originally Spiniferites ramosus var. meandriformis, subsequently (and now) Spiniferites ramosus ssp. meandriformis.
Holotype: Corradini, 1973, pl.26, fig.11
Paratype: Corradini, 1973
Locus typicus: Viano, Reggio Emilia, Italy
Stratum typicum: Senonian
Original diagnosis: Corradini, 1973, p.169: Spiniferites ramosus var. meandriformis
A variety of Spiniferites ramosus possessing a central body with large verrucae arranged in a meander-like pattern. Verrucae slightly granular in appearance, elongated and divided by narrower smooth belts.
Dimensions
Holotype: diameter of the central body 60x60 µm, length of the processes 18-25 µm.
Range: diameter of the central body 52-62x55-64 µm, length of the processes 18-28 µm.
Affinities:
Corradini, 1973, p. 169: Spiniferites ramosus ssp. meandriformis
An ornamentation similar to that of S. ramosus var. maeandriformis was also observed by Gocht (1969) in some specimens of the Eocene of Germany, described as Hystrichosphaera cf. ramosa. The new variety differs only in the lower dimensions of the test and in having a more coarse vermiculate appearance.
