Spiniferites ramosus ssp. reticulatus
Spiniferites ramosus ssp. reticulatus (Davey and Williams 1966) Lentin and Williams 1973
Originally Hystrichosphaera ramosa var. reticulata, subsequently Spiniferites ramosus var. reticulatus, thirdly (and now) Spiniferites ramosus ssp. reticulatus.
Holotype: Davey and Williams, 1966, pl.1, figs.2,3
Locus typicus: Fetcham Mill, Surrey, England
Stratum typicum: Cenomanian
Original diagnosis: Davey and Williams, 1966, p. 38: Hystrichosphaera ramosa ssp. reticulata
A variety of H. ramosa (Ehrenberg) with central body composed of thin smooth endophragm and reticulate periphragm. Gonal and occasionally sutural processes triangular, taeniate or subconical. Gonal processes trifurcate and suturals bifurcate, both types usually terminating distally with small bifurcation. Crests commonly reticulate, proximal except where they extend along processes.
Dimensions:
Holotype: diameter of central body 36 by 42 µm, length of processes up to 14 µm.
Range: diameter of central body 33-59 µm, length of processes up to 17 µm.
