Same as for the genus with the following additional description, The cyst wall of this species is characteristically covered with granulate to verrucate ornamentation of variable intensity. This ornamentation is similar to that occurring on S. verrucosum . However, S. diIatatum has a distinctly innated cyst outline, and a shallow, almost unnotched, transverse furrow. The second antapical horn is weakly represented and could easily remain unobserved with a slight cyst rotation. Epitract characteristics are unknown. Dimensions: Holotype- overall length 56 µm; over-all width 56 µm, transverse furrow width approximately 10 µm.
