Same as for the genus with the following additional description. The cyst wall of this species is characteristically covered with grana, coarse verrucae and blunt-based spines. This species has a distinctly inflated cyst outline, and a shallow, almost unnotched, transverse furrow. The presence of two antapical horns is difficult to distinguish. S. echinoverrucatum closely resembles S. dilatatum in size and cyst outline, but the cyst wall ornamentation is different. Epitract characteristics are unknown. Dimensions: Holotype: over-all length 61 µm; over-all width 60 µm transverse furrow width approximately 8-10 µm.
