Same as for the genus with the following additional description. The cyst wall of this species is characteristically covered with fine, low-relief grana, verrucae, and spines, This ornamentation is uniformly distributed over the entire cyst wall surface. S. granulatum is more densely ornamented than S. spinulosum, and exhibits a distinct, almost unnotched transverse furrow. This species has an inflated cyst outline, a feature to date, uncommon in Shublikodinium. The presence of two antapical horns is difficult to establish in this species. Epitractal characteristics are unknown. Dimensions: Holotype- over-all length 42 µm, over-all width 42 µm transverse furrow width approximately 10 µm.
