Senegalinium dubium

Senegalinium dubium Jain and Millepied, 1973; Emendation: Masure et al., 1996, p.180, as Andalusiella dubia.

NOW Andalusiella. Originally Senegalinium, subsequently Deflandrea, thirdly Deflandrea?, fourthly Andalusiella?, fifthly (and now) Andalusiella.

Holotype: Jain and Millepied, 1973, pl.2, fig.13
Age: Maastrichtian

Original diagnosis Jain and Millepied 1973, p. 25: Senegalium dubium
Shell ovoid to spherical, non-tabulate, non-cavate, zone of contact around equator large. Transverse furrow distinct; longitudinal furrow present or absent. Endophragm smooth, periphragm ornamented, baculo-verrucose. Apical horn short; antapical horns absent or represented only by slight thickenings. Archeopyle large, intercalary, below apical horn, trapezoidal.

Dimensions:
Holotype: Shell 84 µm in diameter; Girdle 6.5 µm broad; Apical horn 6.5 X 6.5 µm in size; Wall thickness 1.5 µm. Range: Shell 80-85 µm in diameter; Girdle 6-6.5 µm broad; Apical horn 5-7 µm long and broad; Wall thickness 1-1.5 µm.
Description: Epitract and hypotract almost equal in size. Large size of archeopyle gives an indication of its precingular position; beculae formed on periphragm have slightly concave tips, some times fused to form varrucae.

Comparison: Forms described under Geiselodinium miocenicum Nagy (1967) compare closely with Senegalium dubium sp. nov. in having similar shape and large zone of contact between peri- and endophragm, but readily differs in lack of an archeopyle. S. dubium is different from other species of the genus in having rudimentary antapical horns and baculoverrucose periphragm ornamentation.

Emended diagnosis: Masure, Tea and Yao 1996, p. 180:
Proximate, acrocavate dinoflagellate cyst with ovoidal to spheroidal brown or colorless central body, short apical and short left antapical horn with reduced or absent right antapical horn. Wall composed of a baculo-verrucosed periphragm and smooth brown endophragm with thickening at the base of the horns. Peridinoid paratabulation indicated by margin of the archeopyle. Paracingulum slightly descending ( Evitt, 1985), levorotatory bordered by verrucosa, parasulcus with bean-shaped flagellar scar. Intercalary archeopyle of I/I type, standard 2a hexa, eurydeltaform (Evitt, 1985, p. 134). Operculum free, monoplacoid, occasionaly adherent.
