Proximate, subsphaerical to ovoidal cyst. Paratabulation is indicated only by a P or 2P archaeopyle. Wall single layered. Autophragm covered by short and wide, tubular distally open processes, which are interconnected by raised muri forming a reticulate pattern with wider lumina.

These are proximate, sphaerical, subsphaerical to ovoidal cysts. Paratabulation is only indicated by the presence of a precingular archaeopyle type either P or 2P. Operculum is free. The shape of the archaeopyle opening depends on the number of precingular paraplates involved in its formation. It is pentagonal if one precingular paraplate is involved in the archaeopyle formation, and it is much larger and polygonal if a 2P archaeopyle is present. Wall single layered and thick, having reticulate ornamentation. Autophragm is covered by numerous, unevenly distributed, short, wide, tubular processes, which are interconnected by raised, thin muri, thus forming a reticulate pattern with wider lumina.
Dimension: Based on eight specimens. Diameter of cyst = 50.0-66.0 µm. Length of processes= 2.0-4.0 µm.
Affinities:
Kumar, 1986, p.402: Scriniocassis downiei differs from S. dictyotus (Cookson and Eisenack) Beju (1971) in lacking an apical protuberance and a paracingulum, and it has short and wide tubular processes, which are lacking in S. dictyotus. S. downiei differs from S. weberi (Gocht, 1964) in lacking a paracingulum and possessing short, wide, tubular distally open processes which are lacking in S. weberi. S. downiei also differs from S. weberi in lacking a paracingulum and possessing, short wide, tubular and distally open processes.
Deriuation of name: This species is named after Prof. C. Downie of Sheffield University, England.
