Scriniocassis papillatus
Scriniocassis papillata (Gitmez, 1970) Davies 1983
NOW Scriniodinium dictyotum subsp. papillatum. Originally (and now) Scriniodinium dictyotum subsp. papillatum, subsequently Scriniocassis dictyotus subsp. papillatus, thirdly Scriniocassis papillatus, fourthly Aldorfia dictyota subsp. papillata.
Brenner, 1988 retained this taxon as a subspecies of Scriniodinium dictyotum Cookson and Eisenack, 1960; however, we follow Lentin and Williams, 1989 in retaining it as a subspecies of Aldorfia dictyota (Cookson and Eisenack, 1960) Davey, 1982.
Holotype: Gitmez, 1970, pl.9, fig.11
Locus typicus: Clay from 20 ft. above the Ringstead Coral Bed, west of Osmington Mills, Dorset (OM 420), England
Stratum typicum: Early Kimmeridgian
Original diagnosis: Gitmez, 1970, p.311: Scriniodinium dictyotum ssp. papillatum
Scriniodinium dictyotum characterized by its blunt, mamelonshaped apical prominence. The endophragm has the same shape as the periphragm.
Dimensions: Holotype: overall length 88 µm, breadth 70 µm. Range (2 specimens measured): overall length 86-90 µm, breadth 65-85 µm.
Original descriptoin: Gitmez, 1970, p.311: Scriniodinium dictyotum ssp. papillatum
The shell is broadly ovoidal in shape, terminating in a mamelon form. The surface of the periphragm is irregularly reticulate.
