Scriniocassis reticulatus

Scriniocassis reticulatum (Pocock, 1972) Jansonius, 1986

NOW Endoscrinium. Originally Scriniodinium, subsequently Scriniodinium?, thirdly Scriniocassis, fourthly (and now) Endoscrinium.

Holotype: Pocock, 1972, pl.23, fig.3; Jan du Chêne et al., 1986, pl.108, figs.1-4
Locus typicus: Imperial Tidewater Wapella, Western Canada
Stratum typicum: Callovian

Original description: Pocock, 1972, p.91-92: Scriniodinium reticulatum
Vesicle two-layered, comprising a rounded capsule overlain by an infrareticulate outer membrane; epitheca hemispherical; no apical spine developed; hypotheca elongate hemispherical; base somewhat flattened; transverse girdle detectable as a distinct thickening encircling the equator; longitudinal furrow not detectable; some indication of plating reflected onto the outer surface; not sufficiently developed to termine tabulation; archeopyle simple, precingular, with a free operculum; capsule 0.5 µm thick; smooth; outer layer 5.0 µm, infrareticulate; brocci rounded; 2.0 (4.4) 8.0 µm wide; muri up to 1.0 µm wide; surface of vesicle scabrate; colour pale yellow; length of grain 37.4 µm; width of grain 35.2 µm length of capsule 31.9 µm; width of capsule 27.5 µm.

Supplemental description: Jansonius, 1986, p.219
(Holotype) ca 100 x 90 µm overall central body obovoid, i.e. epicyst broader than hypocyst. Wall of central body ca 1 µm, with a surficial sculpture of generally low and narrow (0.75-1.25 µm) muri, delineating subcircular to rounded brochi (0.5-5 µm, occasionally larger). In the corridors overlying paraplate boundaries, this sculpture is considerably raised (up to 5 µm). This sculpture of the central body is overlain by a rather loose-fitting outer skin of 0.5-0.75 µm thick, clear to faintly pitted material, which itself forms a number of wrinkles that independently overlie the raised muri of the internal sculpture. The paratabulation is thus only vaguely marked by rather broad and gradually elevated regions of the outer layer; no detailed analysis of the tabulation can be worked out. The apical pole has a few broad lobes projecting beyond the outline, but no apical horn. The antapex is slightly flattened due to the projection of the raised areas around 1"""". The precingular archeopyle spans 3/4 of the width of the epicyst (45 x 15 µm); the operculum is lost. The cingulum is marked by two parallel ridges on the outline, but appears not significantly expressed on the dorsal side.
