Scriniodinium campanula ssp. nichan
Scriniodinium campanula subsp. nichan (Below, 1981a, p.50–51, pl.7, fig.2) Jan du Chêne et al., 1986a, p.317.
Holotype: Below, 1981a, pl.7, fig.2; Jan du Chêne et al., 1986a, pl.110, figs.9–10; Fensome et al., 1991, figs.4–5 — p.593; figs.1–3 — p.695. Originally Endoscrinium campanula subsp. nichan, subsequently Scriniodinium? campanula subsp. nichan, thirdly (and now) Scriniodinium campanula subsp. nichan. .Riding and Fensome (2003, p.14) retained this taxon as Scriniodinium capanula subsp. nichan. N.I.A. Age: Hauterivian.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Below, 1981a]:
Endoscrinium campanula (GOCHT 1959) VOZZHENNIKOVA 1967 ssp. nichan n. ssp.
Etymology: From arabic "nichan" = the ornament.
Holotype: Mount V-4722 40.5/111.
Type location: Profile EB, profile depth 0.75 m; Yahia ou Said.
Type stratum: Upper Hauterivian.
Description: The cyst is elongate-pentagonal. The interior body is obovoid and consists of a hemispherical endoepicyst and a trigonal to elongate-trapezohedral endohypocyst with convex sides. The periepicyst is triangular to pentagonal in outline and bears a trigonal apical horn. The perihypocyst is characteristically elongate- trapezohedral with broad antapical flattening and almost straight sides. The planispiral paracingulum is equatorial and encloses the cyst like a hoop that is square in tranverse section. The finely granulate endophragm and the delicate, smooth periphragm cover a small cavity only ambitally and antapically. The archaeopyle corresponds to type
P3"/P3". In the holotype the operculum of the endocyst and the operculum of the pericyst are still connected posteriorly to the cyst. The boundaries of the paraplates are developed weakly as folds in the periphragm. It was not possible to determine the paratabulation scheme in detail; however, it is similar to that of Endoscrinium campanula (GOCHT 1959) VOZZHENNIKOVA ssp. campanula. The hypocyst also is similarly offset against the epicyst.
Measurements:
Holotype: length 91 μ; width 74 μ; width of paracingulum 7 μ.
Material examined: 4 specimens.
Distribution: Profile EB (19): Hauterivian.
