Scriniodinium scutella

Scriniodinium? scutella Eisenack, 1958; Emendation: Sarjeant, 1985a, p.87–89, as Parvocavatus? scutella.

Originally Scriniodinium, subsequently Ellipsoidictyum, thirdly Parvocavatus?, fourthly (and now) Scriniodinium?. Jan du Chêne et al. (1986a, p.318) retained the species in Scriniodinium.
Sarjeant, 1985 emended the diagnosis of this species when he questionably transferred it to Parvocavatus.

Holotype: Eisenack, 1958, pl.24, fig.3; Sarjeant, 1985, pl.7, fig.3, pl.9, figs,4-6, text-fig.6; Jan du Chene et al., 1986, pl.111, fig.1
Locus typicus: borehole at Marne, Feld Heide, Germany
Stratum typicum: Late Aptian
Translation Eisenack, 1958: Sarjeant, 1958

Original diagnosis: Eisenack, 1958, p.385
Test compressed, broadly oval with pointed apex and shallowly curving antapex. Girdle furrow proportionately deep and broad, removed by about 2/5 of the overall length from the apex. Capsule oval. Lateral flange narrow, on the epitheca broadest above the transverse furrow, becoming narrower towards the apex, on the hypotheca broadest around the antapex.

Emended diagnosis: Sarjeant, 1985, p.88-89: Parvocavatus? scutella
Holocavate, holotabulate cysts of broadly ovoidal to almost spheroidal ambitus, with a low, broad apical mamelon. Epitract mamilliform in both periblast and endoblast, the apical prominence flatter and broader on the former than on the latter. Periphragm laevigate to lightly and finely granulate, endophragrn shagreenate to rugulate, thicker than the periphragm. High, perforate to fenestrate crests, entire to undulate distally, mark the paratabulation: ?0pr, 4", ?1a, 6", 6c, 6""", 1p, 0pv, 1"""". Much lower ridges subdivide the sulcus into 7--?9 small paraplates. Cingulum broad and almost planar; sulcus broad and quite long, extending almost from apex to antapex. Paraplate 4" is quite large and almost quadrate, having a long boundary with a yet longer 6"; their mutual boundary intersects that of 1" markedly posterior to the junction of that paraplate with the sulcus. Paraplate 1""" reduced and quadrate: 1p elongate. Paraplate 1"""" large and polygonal.
Archaeopyle formed by partial or complete detachment of the apical paraplates plus either a large, dorsally situated anterior intercalary paraplate or the anterior third of paraplate 3".
Dimensions: Holotype: overall length 65 µm, overall breadth 58 µm, length of endoblast 59 µm, breadth 52 µm, length of apical horn c. 4 µm. Unique.
