Pseudoceratium regium
Pseudoceratium regium Singh, 1971
Tax. jr. synonym of Pseudoceratium expolitum Brideaux, 1971, according to Harker and Sarjeant, 1975.
Holotype: Singh, 1971, pl.66, fig.2-3
Locus typicus: Peace River area, Lower Shaftesbury Formation, Sec. 1
Stratum typicum: Middle-late Albian
Original diagnosis: Singh, 1971, p.376
Test flat body asymmetrically triangular with convex sides, elongate to equidimensional, with one long apical and two widely divergent antapical horns; smaller antapical horn situated near the equator and the larger one at the antapex closer to one side and not in median position; horns varying from wide-based, conical protuberances to narrow elongate processes distinct from the body; apical horn often surmounted by a 3-micron long, solid rod; cingulum faint, marked by two parallel ridges near the sides, and seen only in a few specimens archeopyle apical with a notched archeopyle suture sur face of the body finely granulate and ornamented by a small-meshed network formed by faint, narrow, low muri; lumina of the horns often elongated lengthwise, body wall less than 1 micron thick.
Dimensions: Size range: Total length of the test, including the horns 92 (114) 150 Á. Holotype 123 Á. Total breadth of the test, inclucling the horns 48 (75) 108 Á. Holotype 70 Á. Length of the body 68 (73) 80 Á. Holotype 68 Á. Breadth of the body 60 (74) 84 Á. Holotype 60 Á. Length of the apical horn 24 (28) 32 Á. Holotype 30 Á. Length of the antapical horns 15 (21) 27 Á. Holotype 25 Á; 11 (15) 20 Á. Holotype 16 Á.
Affinities:
Singh, 1971, p.376: This species is characterized by extreme variability in the
length and shape of the apical and antapical horns, and by the small-meshed network on the surface of the body.
Pseudoceratium regium differs from P. nuclum Gocht, 1957, which is larger (overall length- 190 to 288 Á and smooth. P. turneri Cookson and Eisenack, 1958, is distinct in being ornamented by lamella-like membrane.
