Phthanoperidinium lambdoideum
Phthanoperidinium lambdoideum (Nagy, 1966) Eisenack and Kjellström, 1971
Originally Peridinium, subsequently (and now) Phthanoperidinium. Stover and Evitt, 1978 considered this to be a "problematical species" of Phthanoperidinium.
Holotype: Nagy, 1966, pl.1, fig.1-3; text-fig.1a-b
Locus typicus: Hidas, borehole 53, 135 m, Hungary
Stratum typicum: Early Pliocene
Original diagnosis: Nagy, 1966, p.39: Peridinium lambdoideum
Shell ellipsoidal, Epitheca slightly elongated, about as long as hypotheca. Epitheea exhibiting following tabulation: 4", 2a, 7"", 5""", 2"""" . Surface roughly granular. The pointed sculpture visible at the angles of the tabulations are similar to those on the apex and antapex. In the apieal region there are baculum-like projections, too.
Affinities:
Nagy, 1966, p.39: Peridinium lambdoideum
The junetion of the apical and pre-equatorial tabulations shows a characteristic line such as those occurring in figures of P. cinctum O. F. M. and P. bipes Stein, now living species of Dinoflagellata. On the apex of Peridinium bipes Stein some baculum-like projections can also be found.
