Hystrichosphaeropsis irisiae (Kjellstr÷m, 1973) Gocht, 1976

Originally Scriniodinium?, subsequently (and now) Hystrichosphaeropsis.
Holotype: Kjellstr÷m, 1973, fig.34; Jan du Chene et al., 1986, pl.46, fig.8
Locus typicus: H÷llviken Borehole No. 1, Scania, S Sweden
Stratum typicum: Middle-Late Maastrichtian

Original description: Kjellstr÷m, 1973, p. 40-42: ?Scriniodinium irisae.
Diagnosis: ?Scriniodinium sp. with tripartite, granular theca. Central capsule granular, possessing two hemispherical segments. The bases of these two segments represent the well-defined equatorial cingulum. Archaeopyle precingular.
Dimensions: Length of theca 120 Ám, breadth of theca 80 Ám, diameter of capsule 70 Ám.

Affinities:
Kjellstr÷m, 1973, p. 42: ?Scriniodinium irisae.
This species is characterized by having a coarsely granular ornamentation of the theca and central capsule wall. This species is provisionally attributed to the genus Scriniodium (cf. Eisenack"s remarks on the genus Scriniodinium in Eisenack and Klement 1964, p. 745 and on the genus Triblastula in Eisenack and Kjellstr÷m 1971, p. 1071).

Gocht, 1976, p. 333
Very similar to hystrichosphaeropsis quasicirbrata is the form, described by Kjellstr÷m, 1973, as ? Scriniodinium irisae. Hystrichosphaeropsis irisae (Kjellstr÷m) comb. nov. distinguishes itself by a granulate inner capsule and especially deep cingular indentations. The "hemispherical" shape of eopi- and hypotract could be due to secondary deformation. The inner body is relatively small.
