Now Phthanoperidinium. Originally Peridinium, subsequently (and now) Phthanoperidinium.

Locus typicus: Hidas, borehole 53, 135 m, Hungary
Stratum typicum: Early Pliocene

Original diagnosis: Nagy, 1966, p.39: Peridinium lambdoideum
Shell ellipsoidal, Epitheca slightly elongated, about as long as hypotheca. Epitheca exhibiting following tabulation: 4", 2a, 7"", 5""", 2"""" . Surface roughly granular. The pointed sculpture visible at the angles of the tabulations are similar to those on the apex and antapex. In the apical region there are baculum-like projections, too.

The junetion of the apical and pre-equatorial tabulations shows a characteristic line such as those occurring in figures of P. cinctum O. F. M. and P. bipes Stein, now living species of Dinoflagellata. On the apex of Peridinium bipes Stein some baculum-like projections can also be found.
