Taxonomic senior synonym: Pareodinia ceratophora, according to Wiggins (1975, p.103) — however, Below (1990, p.66) retained Pareodinia aphelia.

Shell with an acuminate or rounded apex and a short closed neck. Wall varying somewhat in thickness and firmness, granular to almost smooth.

Vesicle-/plate arrangement on dinoflagellate amphiesma cop, pop, cap, 3", 2a, 6"", 7c, 6""", 2"""", as, FM, ls, rs, ps; 1" exsert, quadrogonal 1a and hexagonal 2a; growth of thecal plates ?gonyaulacoid.
Cyst habitus proximate, acavate-cornucavate, ellipsoidal, apex pointed with clearly delimited, short, cylindrical apical horn, epicyst slightly longer than hypocyst, antapex rounded or dorsoventrally flattened and indented between two equal or unequal antapical bulges, wall of thin pedium and granulated luxuria, surface chagrinate, nonareate. Areation formula NR PR/XPR, NR", 1a[arch], 2a[arch], NR"", Xc, NR""", NR"""", NRs; IV 1a(DDL) and VI2a(DR), anterior geniculate 2"" (L), 3""(DDL) anterior geniculate, 4""(DDR) anterior linear, finis 3""/4"" dorsal, 5""(R) anterior geniculate; cingulaum nearly planate; archaeopyle anterior intercalary, 1a+2a; operculum solvate, opercular plates secate, generall opercular formula 1a[s]+2a[s].
