Pareodinia apotomocerastes
Pareodinia? apotomocerastes Sarjeant, 1972
Stover and Evitt, 1978 considered this to be a "provisionally accepted species" of Pareodinia . Below, 1990 listed this species under "Nomina dubia", noting that it was a questionable dinoflagellate cyst.
Holotype: Sarjeant, 1972, pl.3, fig.4
Locus typicus: Jameson Land, Greenland
Stratum typicum: Late Bathonian-Early Callovian
Original diagnosis: Sarjeant, 1972, p.27
A species of Pareodinia having a broadly ovoidal to almost spherical, thick walled central body, giving rise to a short truncate apical horn formed by the periphragm only. Length of horn typically less than one-quarter of the length of the central body. The surface of the periphragm generally has a roughened appearance, it bears rugae and granules, often so arranged as to suggest small areolae, though there is no clear overall areolate pattern. On the apical horn, the rugae and granules show some measure of alignment parallel to the long axis of the horn.
Dimensions:
Holotype: overall length 64 µm. breadth 49 µm, length of horn 11 µm.
Range: overall length 53 - 65µm (mean 61.5 µm), breadth 30 - 49 µm.
