Pareodinia rectangularis

Pareodinia rectangularis Yu Jingxian, 1982, p.236, pl.1, fig.1. Holotype: Yu Jingxian, 1982, pl.1, fig.1. Originally Pareodinia, subsequently (and now) Pareodinia?. Questionable assignment: Lentin and Williams (1989, p.283) and Below (1990, p.66) as a "nomen dubium". Age: late Kimmeridgian–Berriasian.

Description: Cysts rectangular or subrectangular, their length being twice their width. Periphragm only, 1 - 1.5 µm thick. Surface has fine granules, with a chaotic intermingling of sutural ridges. Apical horn large, 64.4 - 66 µm long and 30 - 34 µm wide. End truncated or slightly pointed, with a circular apical pore connecting to outer furrow. Intercalary archeopyle. Paracingulum indicated by low, flat sutural ridge.
Size: Cysts 156.4 - 180 µm long and 60 - 85 µm wide.
Comparison: This new species is differentiated from Pareodinia rostrata by being rectangular in shape and having its paracingulum indicated by a low, flat sutural ridge.
