Spiniferites bentorii ssp. granulatus
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Spiniferites bentorii ssp. granulatus Fuchs and Sütő-Szentai, 1991, p.24, pl.9, figs.1,2 (two illustrations),3; text-fig.2, no.4 (two illustrations). Holotype: Fuchs and Sütő-Szentai, 1991, pl.9, fig.3; text-fig.2, no.4 (two illustrations). This name was not validly published in Sütő-Szentai (1988, p.344, pl.2, fig.3) since that author did not provide a description. Age: Late Miocene.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description (Fuchs & Sútõ-Szentai, 1991), translated from German to English by Saskia Frauenschuh (2023)
Spiniferites MANTELL 1850 Spiniferites bentorii (ROSSIGNOL, 1964) WALL et DALE 1970 granulatus nov. ssp. (Taf. 9, Fig. 1-3, Abb. 2, Fig. 4)
Derivatio nominis : granum (lat. Korn).
Holotype: Bohrung Lajoskomarom 1, 592-601 m, Präparat Nr. 1, Kreuztischnummer 23/91,9; Taf. 9, Fig. 3; Abb. 2, Fig. 4.
Stratum typicum : Kunsager-Stock, Spiniferites bentorii pannonicus-, Spiniferites bentorii oblongus-Zonen / Kunsager-Stock, Spiniferites bentorii pannonicus, Spiniferites bentorii oblongus zones.
Description: Roundish, oval body, with apical, prominent apex, bearing plates and processes. The processes are split three times or more structured than the gonal processes. The body is inflated in the direction of the plates 3' and 3''. The wall is two-layered with spongy wall structure, the surface thickly dotted with "grit-like" character. Colour: golden yellow. The tabulation is similar to Spiniferites bentorii (ROSSIGNOL 1964). The plate 3" is generally open.
Size: holotype: Length = 76 µm, Width = 63 µm. The processes are 15-17 µm long. The paratypes have similar dimensions: 10-68 µm long and 48-60 µm wide in Aderklaa T 1, the processes are 12-14 µm long.
Storage : Geological Institute, Komlo, No. W/34 and H/49.
