Spiniferites chebca
Spiniferites chebca (Below, 1982) Lentin and Williams, 1993
Originally Spiniferites multibrevis ssp. chebca, subsequently (and now) Spiniferites chebca.
Sarjeant, 1983, considered Spiniferites multibrevis (Davey and Williams, 1966) Below, 1982, to be a taxonomic synonym of Galea (now Spiniferites) twistringiensis Maier, 1959.
As noted by Fensome et al., 1990, Galea twistringiensis is the sr. synonym at specific rank. However, Lentin and Williams, 1993, regarded the morphology of Spiniferites multibrevis ssp. chebca as not falling within the variability of Galea twistringiensis, so they retaineded it as the species Spiniferites chebca.
Holotype: Below, 1982, pl.8, figs.8a-c
Age: Hauterivian-Aptian
Original description (Below, 1982)
Diagnosis: A subspecies of Spiniferites multibrevis (Davey & Williams 1966) stat. nov. with evenly perforated endophragm and smooth to perforated periphragm, which also partially carries some granules. Broad-based, gonal processes and bi- or trifurcate, parasutureal processes bifurcate. Variants bear only a few parasutural processes and thus lead to Spiniferites ancoriferus ssp. ghiran. All processes are bifurcat or bifid again in second order. They reach about 1/4 of the equatorial diameter in length. The parasutural membranes between the processes are low. Archaeopyle praecingular, type P3".
Measurements: holotype: length of central body 54 µm, width of central body 49 µm, length of appendages 6-8 µm
other specimens: length of central body 48-56 µm, width of central body 45-50 µm, length of appendages 6-10 µm.
