Originally Dilatisphaera dameryensis (an acritarch species), subsequently (and now) Palaeohystrichosphaeridium willierae ssp. dameryense. The combination Palaeohystrichosphaeridium williereae ssp. dameryense was not validly published in Eiserhardt, 1986 since that author did not specify the taxonomic rank; he gave the citation "Palaeohystrichosphaeridium williereae dameryensis." The combination Palaeohystrichosphaeridium williereae ssp. dameryense was correctly published in Fensome et al., 1990.
