Oligosphaeridium dispare

Oligosphaeridium "?dispare" (Tasch in Tasch et al., 1964, p.195, pl.2, fig.8) Davey and Williams, 1969, p.5. Holotype: Tasch et al., 1964, pl.2, fig.8. Originally Hystrichosphaeridium, subsequently Oligosphaeridium?.

Taxonomic senior synonym: Hystrichosphaeridium (as Oligosphaeridium) albertense, by implication in Stover and Evitt (1978, p.69), who considered Hystrichosphaeridium (as Oligosphaeridium) dispare to be a taxonomic junior synonym of Hystrichosphaeridium (subsequently Oligosphaeridium) irregulare, which is now a taxonomic junior synonym of Hystrichosphaeridium (now Oligosphaeridium) albertense. Questionable assignment: Davey and Williams (1969, p.5). This combination, as a questionable assignment, was not validly published in Davey and Williams (1966b, p.77), since these authors did not fully reference the basionym. Fauconnier and Cornu in Fauconnier and Masure (2004, p.403) listed this as a problematic species but apparently accepted the synonymy cited above. Age: Albian.

Original diagnosis: Tasch, 1964, p.195: Hystrichosphaeridium dispare
Subelliptical capsule with sparse, thick processes that slightly expand and are flat-ended with their terminations recurved; six to eight processes spaced on body in pairs or singly.
Dimensions: Holotype: Length (exclusive of processes) 42 Ám; width 30 Ám; length of processes 12-22 Ám; average thickness of processes, 4-7 Ám; maximum length of terminal flare of processes 18 Ám.

Description: Cysts subelliptical. Surface minutely granulate. No more than 18 processes; hollow; ends expand to become trumpet-shaped; sides finely spinose and open; surface lineate. Apical archeopyle.
Size: Cysts 40 Ám long and 28 Ám wide. Processes 20 - 32 Ám long.
Comparison: On the basis of the number and characters of the processes and the archeopyle position, this species should be assigned to genus Oligosphaeridium and is being combined here.
