Mikropithon amniophorum
Mikropithon amniophorum Agelopoulos, 1967
Holotype: Agelopoulos, 1967, pl.10, fig.7
Age: Eocene
Locus typicus: Heiligenhafen
Translated from German by Peter Bijl, 7-01-2019
Diagnosis: Central body round to oval, thick-walled, colour light brown, completely surrounded by a translucent outer wall. There is a large space between inner and outer wall. Slender individual processes, blunt at the distal end, extend from the surface of the inner body, but do not reach the outer body. round to oval archeopyle.
Description: The central body is thick-walled, round to oval, colour light brown. this inner body is completely surrounded by a translucent outer wall. The surface of the inner wall is strongly to lightly granulated, and supports mainly at the middle area processes, which do not reach as far as the outer wall. These are slender, blunt at the distal end and sporadically flare. At the edge of the inner body, processes seldomly occur. Between the inner and outer wall, a large cavity exists. the outer wall is smooth and sometimes also contains spines, mostly situated at the edge of the outer wall. A number of specimens were found lacking processes. The inner wall always contains an archeopyle, with a rounded. oval outline.
