Originally Membranilarnax, subsequentlyMembranilarnacia?.
Taxonomic senior synonym: Schizosporis reticulata Cookson and Dettmann, 1959, a zygnematacean zygospore species, according to Pierce (1976, p.27). Questionable assignment: Eisenack and Kjellström (1972, p.799). At the time of the transfer, Eisenack and Kjellstrom, 1971, questionably included this species in Membranilarnacia.

Locus typicus: Clark County, Kansas, U.S.A.

General configuration of shell subglobular, with medial apical notch; body covered by network of irregular polygons; fringing processes short, the projections arising from corners of body polygons and terminated by a membrane.
Dimensions: Length (excluding fringe), 106 Ám; width (excluding fringe), 90 Ám; length of processes, 7 Ám; diameter of processes, 1 Ám or less; distance apart of any two processes ca. 8 Ám; diameter of central capsule polygons ranging from 6 Ám to 10 Ám.
