From Fensome et al., 2019:
Microdinium balteus (Below, 1987b, p.40, pl.15, figs.11–15) Lentin and Williams, 1989, p.243. Holotype: Below, 1987b, pl.15, figs.11–15; Fensome et al., 1993a, figs.1–5 — p.959. Originally Phanerodinium, subsequently (and now) Microdinium. NIA. Age: middle–late Albian.

Locus typicus: Strouane, Boulonnais, France
Stratum typicum: Middle-Late Albian
Original description: Below 1987b, p. 40: Phanerodinium balteus
Vesicle/plate arrangement of amphiesma cop, pop, cap, 4', 4a, 7'', 7c, 6''', 2'''', as, FM subdivided into periflagellar platelets, ls, rs, ps; pentagonal 1'''' and hexagonal 2'''' partiform; omegaform ps very large, adelopore on suture 1'/4'. Growth of thecal plates gonyaulacoidal. Cyst proximochorate, acavate-finicavate, ovaloidal-polyhedral, tentoriate, hypocyst appr. twice as long as epicyst, maximal diameter at posterior cingular margin, equatorial section circular; size small; wall composed of thin pedium, luxuria composed of diffusely scattered, coarse granules sometimes close together and fused, which are spanned only along the fines by the carinate, upfolded tegillum; the vertices of these hollow septa bear very long, very coarse, densely arranged but individual spinules, over which the finis runs as a fine suture; areate; paratabulation XPR/cop, pop, cap, 4', 4a, 7'', 7c, 6''', 2'''', as, FM, ls, rs, ps; cop very small, circular, surrounded by an annular pop, small planate cap (V); 4 small apicals, steno VII 1' (V), VIII 2' (L), VIII 3' (R), steno V 4', (VVR); 4 small anterior intercalar- ies, caroidal 1a (DL), fastigiate 2a (D), deltaform inverse-camerate 3a (DR), V 4a (RVR);
7 precingulars, anteriorly geniculate V-nE 1'' (VVL), V-nE 2'' (L), V-nE 3'' (DDL), V-nE 4'' (DDR), V-nE 5'' (R) and V-nE 6'' (VR), small anteriorly geniculate V-nE 7'' (VVR), finis 3''/4'' characteristic dorsal location;
cingulum weakly helicoid levorotatory, not very deeply indented, heptapartite, lati 1c to 6c, iso fastigiate 7c;
6 postcingulars, posteriorly linear V-nE 1''' (VVL) and V-nE 2''' (VL), posteriorly geniculate V-nE 3''' (DL), posteriorly linear V-nE 4''' (DDR), V-nE 5''' (R) and V-nE 6''' (VR); 2 antapicals partiform, V 1'''' descending towards VL, VI 2'''' towards R; sulcus slightly indented on the hypocyst, partite, small VII as, small oval FM not, or rudimentarily, subdivided into very small areae, small V ls, small V rs, large omegaform VI ps bulging into 2''''; archaeopyle apical/anterior intercalary, PR+1'+2'+3'+4'+1a+2a+3a+4a; operculum foederate, adnate, general opecular formula (PR+1'+2'+3'+4'+1a+2a+3a+4a)a.
Dimensions of holotype: Length 38 µm, breath 36 µm, thickness 36 µm.
