Originally (and now) Microdinium, subsequently Phanerodinium.
Questionable tax. jr. synonym of Microdinium (as Phanerodinium) distinctum Davey, 1969 , according to Below, 1987.
Below, 1987, transferred this species to Phanerodinium Deflandre, 1937. Lentin and Williams, 1989, retained it in Microdinium.

A Microdinium-species with smooth plates and low, smooth lists.

All remaining, up to now described species of the genus M. , in part, display ornamented plates and always denticulated, spine-bearing or perforated lists. Dimensions: Type-specimen about 33 Ám long, 33 Ám broad. The specimen illustrated here measures about 42 x 42 Ám.
Occurrence: Madura No. 1 bore, at 1070-1104 ft.
