Microdinium reticulatum
Microdinium reticulatum Vozzhennikova, 1967
Originally (and now) Microdinium, subsequently Microdinium?.
Stover and Evitt, 1978, considered this to be a provisionally accepted species of Microdinium.
Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990, included the species in Microdinium without question.
Below, 1987, considered this species to be a nomen dubium.
Holotype: Vozzhennikova, 1967, pl.37, fig.2; Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990, text-fig.62 (lost, according to Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990)
Lectotype: none available, according to Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990
Locus typicus: Novosibirsk, W Sibiria
Stratum typicum: Eocene
Translation Vozzhennikova, 1967: Lees in Sarjeant, 1971, p. 147
Original description: Vozzhennikova, 1967, p. 96-97
Theca oval; epitheca smaller than hypotheca. Arrangement of plates as in type. Surface of theca has a reticulate sculpturing, which may partially or complately cover the plates. Short, slender, transversely striated processes delimit the plates from each other.
Dimensions: holotype: length 36.6 µm, breadth 28.8 µm, width of transverse furrow 5 µm, width of processes 2.5 µm; in other specimens - length 31-43.8 µm, breadth 24.6-30.0 µm, width of furrow 4.6-8 µm, width of margin 2.4 µm.
Affinities:Vozzhennikova, 1967, p. 97: This species is unique in having reticulate sculpturing and in the form of the processes.
