Microdinium? variospinum Davey, 1969
Originally Microdinium, subsequently (and now) Microdinium?.
Questionable tax. jr. synonym of Microdinium (as Phanerodinium) distinctum Davey, 1969, according to Below, 1987.
Holotype: Davey, 1969, pl.2, fig.6
Locus typicus: Escalles, France
Stratum typicum: Cenomanian
Original diagnosis: Davey, 1969, p. 135
Shell subspherical to ovoidal; shell wall thin, smooth, granular or lightly reticulate. Sutural crests low, bearing small numbcr of variably shaped spines. These may be simple tubercles to complex bifurcating protrusions. Reflectcd tabulation 1", oa, 6"", (6c), 6""", 1p, 1""""; cingular plate boundarics very faint or absent. Cingulum weakly laevo-rotatory.
Original description: Davey, 1969, p. 135
The cingular plate boundaries are usually absent, however, one Saskatchewan specimcn had them lightly defined. The sutural spincs are few in number and tend to be concentrated at the posterior of the shell (Pl. 2, fig. 5). They are stout and may be either pointed or flattened distally.
