Leberidocysta laticaudata
Leberidocysta? laticaudata (Vozzhennikova, 1967) Stover and Evitt, 1978
Originally Hexagonifera, subsequently Hexagonifera?, thirdly (and now) Leberidocysta?.
Stover and Evitt, 1978, considered this to be a provisionally accepted species of Leberidocysta.
Mehrotra and Sarjeant, 1984, retained this species in Hexagonifera Cookson and Eisenack, 1961. Lentin and Williams, 1985, retained it in Leberidocysta.
Holotype: Vozzhennikova, 1967, pl.54, fig.1; Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990, text-fig.30 (lost according to Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990)
Lectotype: none available according to Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990
Locus typicus: Western Siberia, Russia
Stratum typicum: Santonian
Translation Vozzhennikova, 1967: Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990
Original description: Vozzhennikova, 1967, p.125: Hexagonifera laticaudata
Internal body oval, thick walled, the surface with coarsely tuberculate sculpturing. Theca discernible at the apical end in the form of a small conical, broadly rounded outgrowth and at the antapical end by a broad, hyaline, caudal process, truncated at the tip.
Remark: Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990, p.59: It is difficult to make many assumptions about this species without viewing specimens. However, we believe the cyst to be a bicavate peridinioid type. There is no record of individuals with a "pylome" or opening in research notes about the observed specimens. The wall of the endocyst is between 3-4Ám thick with tuberculate ornament. Since the holotype and all known specimens of this species have been lost due to desiccation of the slides, we recommend that the species be retained in the genus to which it was assigned in the last valid transfer and that the use of the name ?Leberidocysta laticaudata be restricted to discussions of the original material.
