Lejeunecysta brassensis
Lejeunecysta brassensis Biffi and Grignani, 1983
Holotype: Biffi and Grignani, 1983, pl.1, fig.1
Paratype: Biffi and Grignani, 1983
Locus typicus: Niger Delta, Nigeria
Stratum typicum: Oligocene
Original diagnosis: Biffi and Grignani, 1983, p. 130-131
Autocyst proximate, peridinioid, with pentagonal ambitus. Apex rounded, with small, distinct boss. Two antapical horns well developed, acuminate to rounded. Antapical depression prominent. Paracingular area strongly inflated. Autophragm laevigate. Paracingulum continuous, indicated by transverse folds. Archeopyle, when evident, formed by loss of intercalary 2a, symmetrically situated on middorsal line.
Dimensions: Holotype: autocyst length 80 Ám, breadth 95 Ám. Other specimens: autocyst length 705 Ám, breadth 90-100 Ám. Number of specimens measured, 9.
Affinities:
Biffi and Grignani, 1983, p. 130: Lejeunecysta brassensis differs from L. fallax in having a strong inflation of the paracingular area and in having a small distinct boss rather than an acuminate apical horn. The strong inflation of the paracingular area of this species is a distinctive feature, because it is a constant characteristic, and it reflects the natural three-dimensional shape of the cyst. Furthermore, L. brassensis has a different stratigraphic range than L. fallax. The specimen figured by Benedek (1972, pl. 6, fig. 14) as L. fallax is very similar to L. brassensis and they are probably conspecific.
