Leptodinium bacculatum
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Leptodinium? bacculatum Balteş, 1971, p.3, pl.1, figs.4–5. Holotype: Balteş, 1971, pl.1, figs.4–5. Originally Leptodinium, subsequently Millioudodinium, thirdly Rhynchodiniopsis?, fourthly (and now) Leptodinium?. Questionable assignment: Helenes (1984, p.131). Age: Early Pliocene.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Baltes, 1971]:
Leptodinium bacculatum sp. nov.
Description - Epitract is cone-shaped with slightly convex edges. Four apical plates with an apical, short, but protuberant horn. Six precingular plates. Archaeopyl is precingular, wide, polygonal. In the apical zone there seems to occur a pericoel (pl. 1, fig. 4). The slightly helicoidal cingulum is made up of six plates. Hypotract has five large post-cingular plates, and a small one (1''' ?). An antapical, polyhedral plate is always visible. Tabulation is separated by robust crests supporting many baculiform prominences.
Dimensions - Total length 62 to 63 μ, width 50 μ.
Frequency - Exceptionally abundant. More than 3000 specimens in one slide.
Age - Lower Pontian.
