Polysphaeridium subtile
Polysphaeridium *subtile Davey and Williams, 1966b, p.92, pl.11, fig.1. Emendation: Bujak et al., 1980, p.34. Holotype: Davey and Williams, 1966b, pl.11, fig.1; Bujak et al., 1980, pl.3, figs.9,12. Taxonomic senior synonym: Hystrichosphaeridium (as and now Polysphaeridium) zoharyi, according to Islam (1983b, p.343) — however, Bujak in Lentin and Williams (1989, p.300) retained Polysphaeridium subtile. Taxonomic junior synonym: Tenua (as Hemicystodinium?) taugourdeaui, according to Lentin and Williams (1993, p.275). Age: early Eocene.
Original diagnosis: Davey and Williams, 1966, p. 92
Central body, sub-sphaerical to sub-retangular, with wall composed of extremely thin smooth endophragm and thin granular periphragm. Processes not in connection with interior, slender, open distally, with serrate margin. Average length of processes, one-fifth to one-third the diameter of central body. Number of processes greater than 60.
Original description: Davey and Williams, 1966, p. 92
Simple, slender, tubiform processes possessing a usually serrate distal margin. The latter is occasionally entire, and may be circular or oval. The width of the processes never exceeds 2 µm. The processes do not appear to be arranged in any regular pattern.
Emended diagnosis: Bujak in Bujak et al., 1980, p. 34
Chorate cysts with a subspherical to subrectangular central body. Endophragm extremely thin and smooth; periphragm thin and granulate. Processes numerous (exceeding 60), slender, hollow, open distally with a serrate margin. Average process length is one-fifth to one-third of the central body diameter. Archaeopyle epicystal, type A+"3A"+6P. Opercular pieces may be partially or completely detached.
