Lithodinia stoveri
Lithodinia stoveri (Millioud, 1969) Gocht, 1976
NOW Meiourogonyaulax. Originally (and now) Meiourogonyaulax, subsequently Lithodinia.
Possible tax. jr. synonym of Meiourogonyaulax bulloidea (Cookson and Eisenack, 1960) Sarjeant, 1969, according to Backhouse, 1988. Lentin and Williams, 1989, retained Lithodinia (as Meiourogonyaulax) stoveri as a separate species. Stover and Evitt, 1978, retained this species in Meiourogonyaulax Sarjeant, 1966. Willliams et al., 1993, retained it in Lithodinia.
Holotype: Millioud, 1969, pl.3, fig.1-2
Locus typicus: Angles, SE-France
Stratum typicum: Hauterivian-Aptian
--------------------------------------------------
G.L. Williams short notes on species, Mesozoic-Cenozoic dinocyst course, Urbino, Italy, May 17-22, 1999 - LPP VIEWER CD-ROM 99.5.
Lithodinia stoveri (Millioud, 1969) Gocht, 1976, has vacuolar crests with smooth distal ledges, generally low but higher along the sides of the antapical plate. Wall vacuolar, relatively thick. The cingulum is strongly helicoidal. Size: length 75-84 µm, width 64-82 µm.
--------------------------------------------------
Original description: Millioud 1969, p. 429: Meiourogonyaulax stoveri
A Meiourogonyaulax having an ellipsoidal, somewhat subangular outline; lacking apex (apical archaeopyle) in most specimens seen. Tabulation 4', 0a, 6'', probably 6c, 5''', 1p, 1''''. Crests vacuolar with smooth distal ledges, generally low, but higher along the sides of the antapical plate. Wall vacuolar, relatively thick. Dimensions: Holotype: overall legth 78 µm, breadth 72 µm, width of cingulum 5 µm. In other specimens the length varies from 75 to 84 µm, the breadth from 64 to 82 µm.
Comments: This form is well characterized by its apical archaeopyle, its broadly oval shape, the absence of an apical horn, the low smooth crests and the thick vacuolar wall. The cingulum is strongly helicoidal, its extremities being displaced more than 2 girdle widths.
