Litosphaeridium flosculus
Litosphaeridium "?flosculus" (Deflandre, 1937b, p.75, pl.15 [al. pl.12], figs.5-6) Davey and Williams, 1969, p.5.
Holotype: Deflandre, 1937b, pl.15 (al. pl.12), fig.5.
NOW Florentinia?. Originally Hystrichosphaeridium, subsequently Baltisphaeridium (combination not validly published; Appendix A), thirdly Litosphaeridium?, fourthly Silicisphaera?, fifthly (and now) Florentinia?. Questionable assignment: Davey and Williams (1969, p.5). Taxonomic junior synonym: Eurysphaeridium fibratum (name not validly published), according to Slimani (2001a, p.192). This combination, as a questionable assignment, was not validly published in Davey and Williams (1966b, p.83), since these authors did not fully reference the basionym. N.I.A.
Age: Senonian.

Original description: [Deflandre, 1937b] (translated from French):
HYSTRICHOSPHÆRIDIUM FLOSCULUS N. Sp.
PI. XV, fig. 5, 6.
Holotype: AF 46, flint S. 35, pebble, Paris.
Paratypes: AJ 2, AJ 7, flint S. 53, pebble, Paris.
This attractive species has a globose, roughly spherical shell bristling with more or less curved spines, between which spring a few appendages (about 7-8) with a very distinctive structure. They are stocky and shaped like a prism with a triangular base. Their distal end can widen into a fan, and its surface (because these appendages are closed) bears, both on the edges and towards its center, short, very sharp spines. In some specimens, on the contrary, there is no fanning, but the edge is somewhat rounded. Nevertheless, the general appearance remains the same. The shell's integument, entirely dotted, is more or less dark yellowish.
The observed dimensions are: shell diameter, 38-45 μm; total diameter, including appendages, 55-62 μm.
Hystrichospheridium fosculas has only been seen in two flints, both pebbles collected in Paris.
