Kallosphaeridium circulare
Kallosphaeridium? circulare (Cookson and Eisenack, 1971) Helby, 1987
Originally Canningia, subsequently Canningia?, thirdly Batiacasphaera, fourthly (and now) Kallosphaeridium?.
Helby, 1987, questionably included this species in Kallosphaeridium.
Holotype: Cookson and Eisenack 1971: Pl. 8, fig. 6
Locus typicus: Eyre Bore No. 1 core 20, Western Australia.
Stratum typicum: Mid-Cretaceous
Age: Middle Cretaceous, probably Turonian
Original description: Cookson and Eisenack 1971, p. 219: Canningia circularis
Shell flat, almost circular to slightly oval in outline, the longitudinal axis somewhat shorter than the breadth, without tabulation and prominences. Surface densely covered with short, broadly-based, pointed tubercles. The shell opens by the detachment of the central portion of the apex.
Dimensions: Holotvpe c. 90Á long, c. 107Á broad. Range: breadth c. 83-107Á.
Comment: C. circularis occurs frequently in the Eyre deposit. It is close to C. ringnessi Manum and Cookson 1964 but differs from that species in the absence of an apical prominence and the coarser ornamentation of the shell.
