Kallosphaeridium parvum
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Kallosphaeridium parvum Jan du Chêne, 1988, p.160–161, pl.13, figs.7–9; pl.14, figs.10–12; pl.15, figs.9–12; pl.16, figs.9–10; textfig. 5. Holotype: Jan du Chêne, 1988, pl.13, figs.7–8. This species was cited as "Jan du Chêne, sous presse" in Soncini and Rauscher (1988, p.449). Age: Danian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Jan du Chêne, 1988] (translated from French):
Holotype
Sample Ma2-3 from the Lower Paleocene of the Coupe des Madeleines, near Dakar, Senegal. Slide Ma2-3/12, held in the collections of Esso Production Research-European, 33321 Bègles, France. Plate 13, fig. 7-8.
Description
Spherical to sub-spherical dinoflagellate cyst characterized by an archaeopyl composed of four apical paraplates and one anterior intercalary paraplate, the operculum remaining attached on the ventral area. The autophragm is densely ornamented with coarse granules or small warts of varying sizes. Para-tabulation is indicated only by the main suture of the archeopyle and sometimes by secondary sutures between the paraplates composing the operculum or delimiting the precingular paraplates.
Dimensions
Equatorial diameter of the central body: 28-32 µm
Length of the cyst (without operculum): 28-30 µm
OW/CD ratio (see Jan du Chêne et al., 1985): 0.35.
Number of specimens measured: 7.
Comparison
This species is distinguished from previously described forms of Kallosphaeridium by its small size and its dense, irregular granulo-verrucose ornamentation.
