Kalyptea distincta
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Kalyptea ?distincta Jain and Millepied, 1975, p.145–146, pl.4, fig.65. Holotype: Jain and Millepied, 1975, pl.4, fig.65. Originally Kalyptea, subsequently (and now) Kalyptea?. Questionable assignment: Stover and Evitt (1978, p.110) as a problematic species. Age: Aptian–Albian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Jain and Millepied, 1975]:
Kalyptea distincta sp. nov. (Pl. 4, Fig. 65)
Holotype - P1. 4, Fig. 65; Slide No. 7882-3.
Type locality - Bore hole no. CM-l, depth 2640 metres. Senegal Basin, W. Africa.
Horizon - Albo-Aptian.
Diagnosis - Shell broader than long, thick walled, without any horn; covered in thin and smooth veil like membrane on both sides. Shell surface verrucate, verracae low. Archaeopyle apical, formed only by inner layer (endophragm), broader than long.
Measurements
Overall size: holotype: 48-74 μm, range: 48-60 x 70-80 μm
Shell size: holotype: 46-66 μm, range: 40-48 x55-70 μm
Wall thickness: holotype: 1.5 μm, range: 1.5-2.6 μm
Varrucae height: holotype: 0.6 μm, range: 0.4-0.6 μm
Comparison - Kalyptea distincta sp. nov. is characterised by its broader than long shape and verrucate shell surface. Other specics of the genus are longer than broad and do not possess verrucate ornamentation.
