Kisselovia edwardsii

Kisselovia edwardsii (Wilson, 1967) Stover and Evitt, 1978

Now Charlesdowniea. Originally Wetzeliella, subsequently Kisselovia, thirdly (and now) Charlesdowniea.
The transfer of this species from Wetzeliella Eisenack, 1938, to Kisselovia is not attributable to Costa and Downie, 1979.
Holotype: Wilson, 1967, fig.8
Locus typicus: Waipawa, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
Stratum typicum: Early Eocene

Original description: Wilson, 1967, p.477: Wetzeliella edwardsi
Periphragm outline rhomboidal with well developed horns at each angle. Single antapical horn usually displaced slightly to right of mid-ventral line; occasionally a very small bulge present indicating a left antapical horn. Ornament on periphragm restricted to margin, comprises processes (l=3-11 Ám) Iinked distally by a membrane or filament. The largest processes occur midway between horns. Margin between horns concave. Archeopyle subrounded to nearly oval; operculum often located within capsule or within archeopyle. Capsule outline usually circular. No indication of tabulation. Transverse girdle indicated by distal notches on lateral horns.
Dimensions: Holotype: I = 96 Ám, h = 107 Ám, capsule 50 Ám X 58 Ám, apical horn 16 Ám, antapical horn 19 Ám, lateral horns 19 Ám. Range (6 specimens): l=96(104) 121 Ám, h=94(108)116 Ám, capsule (l) 61 Ám X 61 Ám ap. h. 14(17)19 Ám, ant. h. 16(19)22 Ám, lat. h. 14(17)19 Ám.

Wet. (W.) edwardsii is of the same general type as W. (W.) clathrata Eis. and W. (W.) coeleothrypta Williams and Downie, in that the processes are connected distally. It is readily distinguished from both species by having processes only at or near the margin. Other less obvious distinguishing features are the different periphragm outline, Iack of a true left antapical horn, and the very rounded archeopyle. At the type locality the species is associated with W. (W.) coleothrypta.

Heilmann-Clausen in Heilmann-Clausen and Costa, 1989, p. 469, pl.5,figs.1,2,4: Kisselovia cf. edwardsii
Bujak and Davies, 1983: Kisselovia edwardsii, pl. 11, fig. 7
This form differs from K. coleothrypta by the very short processes along parts of the ambitus, especially in the antapical region. It shows affinity with K. edwardsii in having a reduced number of processes mid-dorsally and mid-ventrally. The cyst-profile in dorso-ventral view may be almost circular.
