Cribroperidinium sarjeantii ssp. sphaericum
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Cribroperidinium sarjeantii ssp. sphaericum (Vozzhennikova, 1967, p.89, pl.25, figs.1–2; pl.28, fig.4; pl.32, figs.1–4) Lentin and Williams, 1985, p.80. Holotype: Vozzhennikova, 1967, pl.28, fig.4; Jan du Chêne et al., 1986a, pl.20, fig.9; lost according to Lentin and Vozzhennikova (1990, p.97). Lectotype: Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990, pl.16, figs.1–2, designated by Lentin and Vozzhennikova (1990, p.97). Originally Gonyaulax sarjeantii var. sphaerica (Appendix B), subsequently Gonyaulacysta sarjeantii subsp. sphaerica, thirdly Millioudodinium sarjeantii subsp. sphaericum, fourthly Rhynchodiniopsis sarjeantii subsp. sphaerica, fifthly Cribroperidinium? sarjeantii subsp. sphaericum, sixthly (and now) Cribroperidinium sarjeantii subsp. sphaericum. Lentin and Vozzhennikova (1990, p.97–98) provided an "expanded description" for this subspecies. Age: Tithonian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: Vozzhennikova, 1967, p.89: Gonyaulax sarjeantii ssp. sphaericum
Theca oval broadly pyriform, with a flexible apical horn which is straight or curvet relation to the theca. Edge of transverse furrow and margins of apical plates surrountet by a colum type of sculpturing or by slender processes of different heights bifurcate at the ents. The bifurcations at the ends of the processes may join together and subsequently branch to give a finely reticulate structure wich occurs more particularly at the antapical ends where the border is wider.
Expanded description: Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990, p.97-98
Proximate dinoflagellate cysts, rountly oval with short, fibrous apical horn; acavat, autophragm densely granulose to fibrouos parasutural ridges low but distinct and fibrous, accessory sutures less distinct; paratabulation indicated by fibrous parasutural ridges, formula: 4", 6"", 6c, 6""", 1p, 1"""". Archeopyle formed by the loss of the third precingular paraplate, Type P, operculum free. Paracingulum indicated by two parallel longitudinal ridges; parasulcus indistinct or marked by a shallow depression on the ventral surface of the hypocyst; paratabulation within the sucal area not observed.
Size: Holotype, length 98 Ám, width 76 Ám; Lectotype, length 99 Ám, width 84 Ám; width of paracingulum about 5 Ám; Range, length 94-99 Ám, width 76-84 Ám.
Affinities:
Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990, p. 98: Cribroperidinium sarjeantii subsp. sphaericum differs from C. sarjeantii subsp. sarjeantii in having a more rounded shape, being at the smaller end of the size range and having slightly higher, more fibrous parasutural septa.
