Dapsilidinium elongatum
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Dapsilidinium? elongatum (Jain and Millepied, 1975, p.150–151, pl.5, figs.73–74) Lentin and Williams, 1981, p.69. Holotype:
Jain and Millepied, 1975, pl.5, fig.74. NOW Exochosphaeridium. Originally Polysphaeridium, subsequently
Polysphaeridium?, thirdly Dapsilidinium?, fourthly (and now) Exochosphaeridium. Questionable assignment:
Lentin and Williams (1981, p.69). Age: Maastrichtian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Jain and Millepied, 1975]:
Polysphaeridium elongatum sp. nov. (Pl. 5, Figs. 73-74)
Holotype - P1. 5, Fig. 74; Slide No. 7762-7.
Type locality - Bore hole no. CM-1; depth 861 metres; Senegal Basin, W. Africa.
Horizon - Maestrichtian.
Diagnosis - Cyst oval to elliptical in outline, wall thick, periphragm ornamented with short, numerous processes, broader at base, truncate or tubiform, hollow distally, unequal in size; perforate. Endophragm smooth. Archaeopyle apical, slit-like.
Measurements
Cyst size: holotype: 78 x 52 μm, range: 70-80 x 50-60 μm
Size of processes: holotype: 13 x 2.5-3 μm, range: 5-13 x 2-4 μm
Wall thickness: holotype: 1.5 μm, range: 1-3 μm
Comparison - Polysphaeridium elongatum sp. nov. differs from all the known species of the genus in having mixed type of shorter and longer processes with perforate periphragm.
