Dapsilidinium punctatum
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Dapsilidinium punctatum (Jain and Millepied, 1975, p.151, pl.5, figs.71–72) Lentin and Williams, 1981, p.70. Holotype: Jain and Millepied, 1975, pl.5, fig.72. Originally Polysphaeridium, subsequently Polysphaeridium?, thirdly (and now) Dapsilidinium?. Questionable assignment: Lentin and Williams (1981, p.70). Age: Maastrichtian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Jain and Millepied, 1975]:
Polysphaeridium punctatum sp. nov.
Holotype - Pl. 5, Fig. 72; Slide No. 7762-7.
Type locality - Bore hole no. CM-1, depth 861 metres; Senegal Basin, W. Africa.
Horizon - Maestrichtian.
Diagnosis - Cyst spherical in outline, wall thick, periphragm micropunctate, processes of two types, one shorter, distally truncate and other longer with bifid or spinose apex; both hollow distally. Archaeopyle apical with angular margin.
Measurements
Cyst diameter: holotype 65 μm; range 60-80 μm
Process size: holotype 10 x 6.5 μm; range 10-13 x 5-7 μm
Wall thickness: holotype 1.5 μm; range 1.5 x 2 μm
Comparison - P. punctatum sp. nov. comes nearest to P. elongatum sp. nov. in having similar mixed type of processes and punctate test surface. But differs in having spherical shape than elongate with dropping processes.
