Original diagnosis: Stanley, 1965, p.218
Deflandrea dakotaensis resembles D. bakeri Deflandre and Cookson and D. pellucia Cookson and Eisenack. lt differs from those species in that the cell membrane is smooth and there is no or only a faint suggestion of a girdle. It differs from D. phosphoritica Eisenack in that the posterior region is much longer. Also, D. dakotaensis lacks the girdle and the furrow of D. phosphoritica.
