Originally Deflandrea oebisfeldensis forma ovalis, subsequently (and now) Deflandrea oebisfeldensis ssp. ovalis.

Original description: Vozzhennikova, 1967, p. 146: Deflandrea oebisfeldensis forma ovalis
Theca oval pentagonal, with slightly convex sides having a central angulation. Epitheca triangular, with convex uniformly thick lateral walls and a short, conical bluntly ending apical horn which is slightly deflected to the side. Hypotheca trapeziform, with straight or feebly concave lateral walls and a transverse furrow which is almost parallel to the concave posterior margin. The antapical horns are short, triangular, situated far apart and have pointed or blunt tips. The internal body is oval. Its surface, and that of the theca is granulate. Pylome trapeziform.
Size: Holotype, length 125 Ám, width 98 Ám, width of paracingulum about 6 Ám; endocyst, length 73 Ám, width 81 Ám.
