Vozzhennikova, 1967, designated a holotype but did not appear to identify it in her illustrations.

Original description: Vozzhennikova, 1967, p.142: Deflandrea phosphoritica ssp. australis forma lata
Theca pentagonal, thick walled. Epitheca larger than hypotheca, the former resembling a broad funnel with some convexity of the sides at the level of the upper edge of the internal body; beyond this level the sides taper to form a small apical horn which is tubular in shape and rounded at the distal end. Hypotheca trapeziform with parallel or slightly concave lateral walls and a concave antapical margin which gives rise to two pointed, triangular horns of equal or unequal size. Laterally on the theca where the epitheca and hypotheca join there are blunt outgrowths with a small recess which forms part of the transverse furrow. The transverse furrow is annulate, equatorial and from its ends the longitudinal furrow extends in the direction of the antapex. The oval internal body occupies the central part of the theca and its walls stop at some distance from the lateral walls of the theca. Thecal surface smooth, surface of internal body finely granular. Pylome trapeziform.
