Deflandrea stagonoides
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Deflandrea stagonoides (Benedek, 1972, p.10, pl.2, fig.12; text-fig.5) Lentin and Williams, 1976, p.44. Emendation: Benedek and Sarjeant, 1981, p.324, as Ascodinium stagonoides. Holotype: Benedek, 1972, pl.2, fig.12; Benedek and
Sarjeant, 1981, fig.3, nos.1,3; Fensome et al., 2019a, fig.20L. Originally Ascodinium, subsequently Deflandrea,
thirdly Senoniasphaera, fourthly (and now) Deflandrea?. Fensome et al. (2019a, p.56–57) questionably retained
this species in Deflandrea. Age: Late Oligocene.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Translation Benedek, 1972: LPP
Original diagnosis: Benedek, 1972, p.10: Ascodinium stagonoides
An Ascodinium species with dorsoventrally flattened, thickwalled inner wall and smooth outer wall. Apex ends in a wide, long, rounded horn; antapical processes strongly developed and with rounded ends.
Original description: Benedek, 1972, p.11: Ascodinium stagonoides
The thickwalled inner layer is circular to ellipsoidal and connected to the outer layer dorsally and ventrally. The finger-like apical and antapical processes are nearly of same size. Archeopyle results from the loss of the apical part, leaving a zigzag suture. Membrane of the inner wall thick, possibly granular and of yellow-brown color. Outer Membrane relatively thin, pale yellow and transparent.
Dimensions: Capsule 62(65)70 µm, apical horn 13-15 µm, antapical horns 12-20 µm (3 specimens).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the basis that its archaeopyle may be latideltaform, we retain this species questionably in Deflandrea.
Stratigraphical occurrence. The type material is from the Upper Oligocene of Germany.
