Deflandrea wellingtoniana
Deflandrea? wellingtoniana Tasch, 1963
Originally Deflandrea?, subsequently Nannoceratopsiella.
Tasch, 1963, questionably included this species in Deflandrea.
This species is based on a mineral grain, according to Stover and Evitt, 1978.
Holotype: Tasch, 1963, pl.1, fig.9
Age: Early Permian
(Tasch, 1963):
Diagnosis: Subtriangular theca with surrounded antapical horns separated by a broad convexity; truncated apical area; bulge of hypotheca above antapical horns; plate system poorly defined; epitheca a small truncated cone above the fairly well defined equatorial girdle.
Measurements: Length, 42 µm; maximum width, 40 µm; distance between centers of antapical horns, 19 µm.
Discussion: The position of the equatorial girdle in this species is much anterior to that found in Deflandrea species generally. Nevertheless, allowing for a broad range of morphology in any dinoflagellate genus, the new species is closest to Deflandrea phosphoritica Eisenack, 1939 (cf. Eisenack, 1959, pl. 3, fig. 3).
Holotype: WU-DF 102.00. Slide no. 1102. Coördinates: R 54.5, D 15+
Locality: Wellington formation, Harvey County, Kansas, Jester Creek I, bed 7b.
