Diconodinium gracile
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Diconodinium gracile Oleinik, 1975, p.224–225, pl.1, figs.1–2. Holotype: Oleinik, 1975, pl.1, figs.1–2. Age: Late Eocene–Late
Oligocene.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description Oleinik, 1975:
Plate 1, Fig 1-2
Name of species from gracilis, Lat. - fine, exquisite.
Holotype: Tadzhik Dept. of VNIGNI, prep. 364/136-1, South, Tadzhik depression, Chigim, U. Eocene, lsfarinian-Кhanabadian beds.
Description: Theca elongate - rhomboid, lateral sides slightly convex. Epitheca equal to hypotheca. Surface of theca granular, divided by ribs into large triangular fields. The ribs separating the fields are rather wide and smooth. Epitheca terminates in small protuberance; hypotheca terminates in small protuberance; hypotheca terminates in small pointed, curved spine. Transverse groove equatorial, wide, curled slightly to the right.
Dimensions: Holotype: length of theca 55.5, width 30, width of transverse groove 5.85. Dimensions of other specimens: length of theca 52.1-63.7, width 30-42.7, width of transverse groove 4.6-5.7.
Comparison: differs from other species of the genus by the more prolate shape of the theca, the convex lateral sides of the theca and the wider transverse groove. The species described here is most similar to the species D. rhombiformis Vozzhen from the Turonian deposits.
Remarks: Our species is the second species from the Eocene deposits. The other known species are from Cretaceous deposits of the USSR arid Australia.
Geological and Geographical Distribution: U. Eocene, U. Oligocene; Tadzhikistan.
Collection: 4 well-preserved specimens. No. 1 found in the South Tadzhik depressions (Chigim section); no. 2 - in the Gissar Range (Akba-Kul section); nos. 3 & 4 - South Tadzhik depression (Khovaling area).
