Holotype: Yu Jingxian and Zhang Wangping, 1980, pl.4, fig.2
Age: Cenomanian-Early Turonian

Original description Yu Jingxian and Zhang Wangping, 1980 [translation Suning Hou 2025]:

Diphyes cretaceum sp. nov.
Holotype: Slide number W3-4A, Plate IV, Figure 1.
Description: The cyst measures 93.0-105.8 µm in length, with the holotype measuring 105.8 µm, and 75-89.5 µm in width, with the holotype width being 89.5 µm. The central body measures 66-78.2 µm in length, with the holotype measuring 78.2 µm, and 51-59.8 µm in width, with the holotype width being 59.8 µm. The antapical protrusion measures 23-30 µm in length, with the holotype measuring 30 µm, and 12-17 µm in width, with the holotype width being 17 µm. The small protrusions measure 16-17 µm in length. The cyst is spiny, with the central body generally oval, and rarely nearly round. It is surrounded by a membrane from which more than 50 hollow small processes emerge. The base of each process is slightly swollen, narrowing toward the distal end, and expanding slightly at the tip. The cingulum is narrow, with two rows of small protrusions arranged along it. The protrusions before the cingulum are wider than the others, and the apical protrusions are short and broad, often bifurcated. The antapical protrusions are wide, conical, and hollow. The apical archeopyle is present, with a triangular apical plate, and after detachment, the suture is inward-curved.
Comparison: The new species is distinguished from D. colligerum described by Davey et al. in 1966 by its oval-shaped central body, large antapical horn, and numerous long small processes.
Stratigraphy: Lower part of the Uytak-Kukbay Formation. 乌依塔克–库克拜下部
