Disphaeria munda
Disphaeria munda (Davey and Verdier, 1973) Norvick in Norvick and Burger, 1976
Originally Thalassiphora, subsequently (and now) Disphaeria. Lentin and Williams (1981, p.90) retained this species in Disphaeria.
Taxonomic senior synonym: Erikania (now Thalassiphora) dynamica, according to Yun Hyesu (1981, p.70) - however, Lentin and Williams (1985, p.353) retained Thalassiphora munda.
Holotype: Davey and Verdier, 1973, pl.3, fig.10
Locus typicus: Saint Florentin, France
Stratum typicum: Albian-Cenomanian
Original diagnosis: Davey and Verdier, 1973, p.196: Thalassiphora munda
The cyst consists of an ovoidal to subspherical, thin walled inner body surrounded by a very thin outer wall. Both inner body and outer wall are smooth; they are in contact in the ventral region but are separated in the lateral and dorsal regions, where separation is maintained by the presence of five large intratabular processes. The latter are hollow, narrow proximally but widen considerably distally here the outer edges of the processes become parallel to the inner body wall and expand to form the outer wall. The usual presence of a precingular archaeopyle, formed by the loss ofplate 3", allows orientation of the cyst and positioning of the processes. There appears to be two processes on the dorsal epitract and three on the dorsal hypotract.
Dimensions: Holotype overall length 99 Ám, overall width 95 Ám, inner body length 53 Ám, inner body width 45 Ám.
