Originally Thalassiphora, subsequently Disphaeria.
Taxonomic senior synonym: Pterospermopsis (as Thalassiphora) pelagica, according to Stover and Evitt (1978, p.174).
Holotype: Pöthe de Baldis, 1966, pl.2, fig.d
Locus typicus: Tierra del Fuego, well SJ-1 (Estancia San Julio) of Tennessee
Stratum typicum: Early Tertiary

Central body is rounded; the membrane is of medium thickness and is corrugated. The aperture has a quadrangular form. The external membrane is thin and has a circular outline.
Dimensions: Holotype: Greatest total diameter 148. 5 Ám, least total diameter 148.5 Ám, greatest body diameter 88 Ám, least body diameter 83. 5 Ám, aperture diameter 28.6 Ám.
